Cobalt & aqua: Greece on my mind

Monday, June 17, 2013

I am wearing my Mango dress • H&M scarf • Scapa flats

Kenneth had his last exam on Friday so we both had the weekend off. We slept in, ate too many strawberries and started thinking about our summer holiday. Last week, I found a postcard in the mail from Rhodos, Greece. We got the idea to travel around Greece this winter, when we were casually browsing for cruises we would never be able to afford and this postcard sparked my interest for the land of islands again. Maybe, if we planned everything on our own and based our choices on experiences from the people we know, we could save on travel costs and be save too. Alas, it's only just a dream and since I haven't found a summer job yet, it might not be doable at all.

So. Since we can't go to Greece, I decided to dress like Greece. With my whiter-than-your-average-bed-sheet-skin and my new cobalt blue dress, I would be completely camouflaged on the isle of Santorini. The scarf was a gift from my mom that I actually asked for to pair it with my white floral dress, but I just loved how the turquoise looked with the blue of the dress so it's been on this dress since.

Right now, I should actually be preparing to present my thesis to a jury this Friday. I am extremely nervous! It's the last step towards my bachelors degree, so I truly can't mess up my presentation. At least, not if I want to enjoy three months of student vacation. And wouldn't that be nice? Yes. It would be.

Event Report: FashionClash 2013

Thursday, June 13, 2013

What happens when you're in a car with two people you only just met? Awesome stuff happens, of course! So. FashionClash 2013. On Saturday June 1st my alarm clock was supposed to go off at 6:30am. I woke up with a panic at 8:15 from the noise caused by two tractors plowing the field next to our house. The train left in the next town over at 8:45. Not Good.

I don't think I've ever eaten, showered, got dressed and brushed my teeth as fast as I did that morning. I was on the train by 8:40. I could have used those five extra minutes to grab a bottle of juice for the ride. A little over 11am the train rolled into Tongeren station where Dorien and Sven were waiting to start our adventure. Off To Maastricht we went!

White lace dresses and boyfriends

Monday, June 10, 2013

I am wearing a Tramontana dress (mint version) • Scapa flats • Louche ring • Oasis earrings

I don't know about yours, but my boyfriend tends to run away screaming when I pull a white lace dress from the racks when shopping. I imagine he can hear the wedding bells ringing, and we may have reached our four year milestone we're still a bit young (and in school) for that major step. I shied away from white lace for a while, but I really wanted a white lace dress anyway. The annual dance of Kenneths student club was coming up and I really wanted a new dress. I wore the same little black dress to my high school prom and the annual dances for the past three years. This is the dress I picked, and these rose gold cap toe flats are the ones I choose with it. We met up at the venue, as Kenneth had to help set everything up and I had gone work that day and to my huge surprise... he loved it. Boys. They'll never really make sense to me.

The annual dance was on April 26th, but I only got a chance to show you the outfit now. In more recent history, we visited a beautiful castle ans its garden this weekend. There were supposed to be a million roses, but the bushes were awfully green. Due to our very dreary spring, the bloom period hes been delayed. No worries though, there were a lot of poppies, lilies and other pretty things blooming in the vegetable garden (of all places!). I did snap quite a lot of photos and I am surprised how well some came out! I'll share them with you soon... on my new blog. Yes you read that right! I'm trying my hand at starting a photography blog. I've noticed that my photography posts and style posts are not that easy to combine, and they really do pull in a different public. I decided to separate both subjects and create a new blog for my photos. I'm currently still  thinking out the concept and designing the lay-out, but it's coming together pretty fast. All I really need more is a name for the new photo blog. Help?

A week full of good news and pictures of onions

Thursday, June 6, 2013

I passed my internship! Goodness, I'm so happy!!! Kenneth and I also celebrated our 4 years together this week and I am looking at two weeks of vacation with good weather. My cousin welcomed his third daughter into the world today, her name is Julie ans she's so precious! I'm afraid to hold her, because she's so tiny. On top of all that, my mom bought me the prettiest embellished top, I found the a great pair of wet-look shorts at an outlet (hooray for saving!) and I treated myself to this aaaaaamazing cobalt blue dress. I think it's fair to say that I've had quite a good week, haha. I'm planning to spend my two week break catching up on sleep, eating loads of unhealthy things, watching too much Natgeo documentaries and picking up photography again. The waterlilies will bloom again soon, soooooo I'm pretty excited about that!

In other news. The pictures above feature blooming onion plants. Yes. I was quite surprised to see these at the city gardens, as little less than a month ago there we millions of red an purple tulips growing in the exact same flower bed. These photos are completely unedited as well. I'm getting to know the manual mode better and better and am loving the fact that I don't feel a need to always edit my photos anymore. It's so much more fun to tinker with the settings on my camera than trying to figure out how Photoshop works. Besides, I've been spending so much time behind the computer the last couple of months for schoolwork and my internship, that I truly enjoy my time outside. It's summer too for heavens sake! And I think Mother Nature has finally figured that out too. Hello Sunshine!

White out

Monday, June 3, 2013

Wearing: Zara blazer • Only t-shirt • Gap jeans
I could have gone full house with the withe and go with white jeans instead of my trusty boyfriends, but decided it more than I could handle keep clean. With a  box of chocolate covered ice creams waiting in the freezer wearing too much white isn't a good idea.

I went on a bit of an "unnecessary" shop-stop the past two months. This white shirt and my salmon-y sweater are about the only new things I bought for myself since the beginning of April. The white shirt I bought on a whim, and I doubted strongly about keeping it after I got home. I decided to cut of the tags and go for it but am still a bit clueless as to how I can style it. It has "Champ 30" written on the back in dark blue which limits the options a lot. But it has a nice fit, and I kinda dig how it works with my white blazer. If you guys have any ideas, please do share them!

The past weekend was a pretty hectic one. I overslept on Saturday morning which led to me lmost missing the train to Tongeren, where I was meeting Dorien and her swag friend Sven for FashionClash 2013. We drove down to Maastricht, where we were welcomed by a fancy guy with a fancy car that brought us to a fancy house with lots of fancy fashion people. More about our FashionClash 2013 adventure later. I'll be going now. I still have to prepare for my evaluation to see how I evolved during my internship. It's tomorrow morning and I am SO nervous about it!
